VIDEO TUTORIAL:
how to make a stamp

While spring cleaning a few years ago, I found an entire box of cassette cases in my closet.
I completely forgot that I had these and decided to put them to use.
Ever since then, I've been repurposing cassette cases to make printing stamps.

supplies needed:

First, seal the cassette case with a strip of tape.

The craft foam that I prefer to use has a paper-backed adhesive side, so I like to stack up
about 3 to 4 sheets in order to make a stamp that
extends high above the cassette case and that is a bit thick.

Draw any kind of shape you want.
In this example, I am keeping it really simple, but you can get
quite detailed with this material by cutting into it with a wood burning tool.

Cut it out and assemble it on your cassette case.
Save any left over bits to make another stamp.

Print on paper or fabric.

You can use a brush to apply the paint directly on the stamp or use a paint pad.

new online class:
The Painted Page
(part 2)

http://www.almastoller.com/product/painted-page-online-class-alma-stoller?tid=1

If you've ever taken a class with me you know that I DO NOT work on store bought materials.
I do not use watercolor paper, or fancy and expensive canvases..... my art journals are all handmade and I often make my own paints and adhesives... that is just the way I prefer to do it.
...or as my daughter says, "That's just the way I roll"

The Painted Page (part 1) is an incredibly fun class....full of ideas and inexpensive ways of creating with everyday items.... but after I finished recording the class,
I still had plenty of other ideas and projects to share.

So, I've assembled it into my new online class called The Painted Page (part 2)
In this class we will be working on various different sizes of pages, making handmade canvases, painting on non-traditional surfaces, making collage paper, making your own ephemera, using all sorts of paints, inks, beeswax, resin, paper lace designs, and much more.

In this 15 video online class, we will explore all sorts of
mixed media applications using everyday items.

~here is a video sneak peek~

And here is one of the finished painted pages.

In the meantime, this is the current state of my ever-changing design wall.

how to make a stitched patchwork cloth

This is one of my favorite ways of recycling and
repurposing old clothing, specially cotton shirts.

Supplies:
acrylic/polyester felt or cotton batting
fabric scraps
scissors
a pin cushion and a lot of pins
basic sewing supplies
a sewing machine and basic sewing supplies

For the complete beginner, start with a manageable size of felt.
In this example, I am using a 10 x 10 piece of acrylic felt.
The felt will functions as a lining and support
anything you decide to do on the finished piece.

Gather up all your fabrics and cut it into small scrap-size pieces...
about the size of your hand.... or smaller.

Place each piece so that it overlaps about 1/2 an inch.

Pin the fabric to the felt.

Machine stitch the entire piece.

Once it is completely stitched, it is done.
Then you can make all sorts of things like a patchwork pillow, a placemat or
a small quilt.

Enjoy!

Paper Beads
online class

This is what I have been working on for the past few weeks..... my collection of aromatic paper beads for my new online class called Paper Beads.
In this class you will learn how to make these fragrant beads as well as other
creative paper bead designs.

This is a small sampling of the collection.
I have made these in all sizes and shapes.....
from basic circles and squares, to more organic and free flowing shapes.

Recycling is a part of the process of making these delicately fragrant jewels.
I have my own process for making these, my preferred method and supplies
and that is what I am excited to share with you.

This class starts tomorrow, February 26th.
I am excited to share with you the various ways that I make Paper Bead.
